A Day in the Life of… Chintamani Kansas

Chintamani Kansas, longest employed Yoga Instructor at The Yoga Common (since the mang’Oh days) and freelance Yoga Instructor

As a freelance yoga instructor, my schedule varies daily, depending on my clients’ schedules.  However, this is what my typical Monday looks like.

6:15 am - Wake up bright and early and make myself a glass of water with lemon or cranberry juice to hydrate while I make my coffee, smoothie and lunch.  I am committed to nutrition and reducing waste and single-use plastic, so I drink my beverages, and pack smoothies and snacks in various-sized reusable, BPA-free glass jars like these:  12 oz for drinking and storage  Different Sized Jars for drinking and storage.  I also pack fruits, cutlery, and a toothbrush in reusable stasher bags in my backpack, along with my metal water bottle.

My favorite smoothie is a simple blend of frozen strawberries, blueberries, baby kale and a little apple juice and water.

7:00 am - Do some journaling / thoughtwork while I drink my coffee and juicy waters.  This helps me ground, center and sort myself out for a busy day.

7:30 am - Hello, Buddy!  Around this time I am getting ready to take a shower, and my  Squirrel friend, Buddy, comes to the window to say “hello” and enjoy some nuts served in a soy sauce dish.  Buddy also has this adorable squirrel feeder, yet chooses to come visit me directly.

I feel very blessed to have their bushy-tailed company in the mornings!

Buddy the Squirrel eats a nut out of their blue and white soy sauce dish, and looks adorable doing it.

Well hello Buddy! What good manners you have. Bon appetit!

7:45 am – Take a shower and set up for my first class of the day, via Zoom!

9:00 am - Monday - Saturday at 9:00 a.m I teach classes geared towards Older Adults to offer all the benefits of yoga and pilates without the risks for people with arthritis, osteopenia and osteoporosis.  Classes specialize in balance, joint mobilization and bone density stimulation.  Many of my participants have been with me for over a decade, and report improvements in physical and mental health all the time!

10:05 am - I freshen up, and it’s off to see some clients!

11:00 - 4:00 / 5:00 pm – My clients are from all walks of life, from busy professionals, to those who would like prenatal or postpartum yoga sessions, to older adults, to people with special conditions, to people who simply appreciate a yoga session tailored to their needs and interests.

For my clients, I bring some of my favorite things for my personal practice:

Morningstar Incense - Sandalwood, Therabands - Advanced, Therabands - Beginner, Yoga Tune Up Balls,  Avalon Organics Lotion

4:00 / 5:00 PM – Some Mondays I have clients back-to-back, so my personal practice waits until Tuesday.  Other times I am able to steal 45 minutes or so at The Yoga Common NYC for some personal practice or meditation. Then I freshen up and center for my classes.

6:00 pm - Happy Hour Yoga at The Yoga Common

7:15 pm - Level 2 Vinyasa at The Yoga Common

I love kicking off the week with some lovely yoga flows in this sweet studio!

8:15 pm - A productive and satisfying work day is done!  Now I am catching up on emails on the bus on my way home to East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

9:00 pm - Home Sweet Home!  My partner, Andrew, is finishing up dinner preparations while I shower and get settled.  We take turns with meal prep and cooking duties.  Some days we reheat something delicious and nutritious we made the previous night, like vegan chili, Indian dahl or Jamaican curry.  Other times we use pre-prepped veggies and aromatics for a quick stir fry or air fryer dish.  We love sharing flavorful, nutrient-dense, vegetarian and pescatarian recipes from a variety of cuisines.

We watch some Netflix together, tidy up and head off to bed to recharge for the next day.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays focus more on self-practice and lesson planning.

11:00 pm - Lights out for this busy household!

Have one more picture of Buddy for the road!
